Majority Americans Disapprove of Trump Handling Transition

If those numbers hold, Trump's administration will move in with the lowest approval rating in modern presidential history.

One week before the inauguration, Americans' approval rating of President-elect Donald Trump's handling of the presidential transition remains the lowest since Gallup began polling in 1992 and has fallen in the past month.

Trump is far less popular than President Barack Obama was when he was elected in 2008 on a message of hope and change.

In a Gallup poll released Friday, 51 percent of Americans viewed Trump's transition negatively while 44 percent approved of the way he was preparing to take office.

Just 12 percent of respondents disapproved of Obama's transition performance in the final weeks before his inauguration and 25 percent disapproved of Bush's, according to survey data. His score has dropped since the last poll from early December 2016, which found that he had an even split with 48 percent approval and disapproval each.

The poll, which surveyed more than 1,000 adults nationwide via telephone from January 4 to 8, has a major of error of plus or minus 4 percentage points at a 95 percent confidence level.
