"But from there, we intend to have a full and rigorous debate on the president-elect's remaining nominees", Schumer said, indicating that Trump is unlikely to have many of his nominees confirmed immediately.

Senate Republicans had hoped to confirm as many as seven of Trump's nominees within hours of his inauguration as president at noon on Friday.

Both retired General James Mattis, Trump's pick to lead the Pentagon, and retired General John Kelly, his choice for the Department of Homeland Security, are expected to be confirmed easily.

Schumer also hammered Rep. Tom Price (R-GA) who is Trump's HHS pick because of questions over whether Price violated the law when he purchased stocks of a health care company he later introduced legislation on.

Trump's nominee for Central Intelligence Agency director, Republican Rep. Mike Pompeo of Kansas, could get a vote along with Mattis and Kelly on Friday, although his confirmation may be pushed to Monday, Schumer said.

Democrats will be unable to stop any of Trump's nominees if Republicans, who hold a 52-48 majority, stick together.

"I looked at their records.and I think they'd be very good", Schumer said.

The problem, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) told reporters Thursday, is that Trump is trying to pick a "swamp cabinet" that is loaded with rich people carrying trunk loads of complicated ethical baggage.

The other two species use the appendages to camouflage themselves in seaweed and other sea-based vegetation. Its closest relatives, the leafy and common seadragon , inhabit much shallower depths of 3-25 meters.

Republicans accuse Democrats of playing politics, using stalling tactics and overstating ethics concerns about some of Trump's selections.

Schumer said it's possible that other non-controversial nominees also could come up for a vote as early as Friday. "Senate Republicans did not want to have a full debate on the merits of these nominees in committee, but they should be prepared to do so on the floor of the United States Senate".

And he argued that those nominees have been slow to provide information that would allow Democrats to move more quickly. While Democrats lack the ability to kill a nomination, they can demand floor debate and delay votes.
