The No. 5-seeded Pliskova, who beat Serena Williams in the semifinals at the U.S. Open previous year before losing to Angelique Kerber in the final, rallied to win the second set 6-3.

It was a nervy contest for Lucic-Baroni, who looked beaten when forced to take a medical break while trailing 3-4 in the final set.

Ninth seed Konta, who reached the semi-finals here a year ago and won the Sydney warm-up tournament, managed a single break in the second set but was unable to cope with the power of the world number two.

"I can't believe this, this is insane", she said.

"I know this means a lot to every player to reach the semi-finals [of a Grand Slam tournament] but to me this is overwhelming", she said.

Ajit Pai expected to take over FCC with Trump's inauguration
Pai has been a commissioner at the FCC since 2012, when he was appointed by then-President Obama and confirmed by the Senate. Pai opposed net neutrality rules and, after Trump's victory, said those rules' " days are numbered ".

"I think she handled all situations a little bit better than to me today, and was more aggressive, and that is why she won". "One day I will tell a long story about the things that have happened to me, but I can never dream of being here again", she said.

Serena Williams, Rafael Nadal, Mirjana Lucic-Baroni and Grigor Dimitrov all progressed into the final four of the Australian Open on Tuesday to complete the lineup of this year's semi-finalists. At 34 years old, like I said before, I have a wonderful home.

"I admit I complain a lot. but I said to myself, "just have fun and try to enjoy the moment" and I did".

When the 79th-ranked Croatian won her first-round match against China's Wang Qiang in a tight three sets, she collected a first win in Melbourne since 1998. But the German fought back in commanding style to seize control of the match, winning all three remaining games to book her place against Williams on Thursday. "She is improving mentally, she is trying to stay positive and believe and keep calm because sometimes she's really hard on herself, criticizing herself".

The Czech reached last year's US Open final and won the Brisbane International earlier this month, leading more than a few to pick the 24-year-old as the Australian Open victor. "This makes all the bad things I've been through in my life, is now good", she recalled thinking perhaps in her story of abuses and mistreatment of her father.

Australian Open: Kerber becomes latest big gun to draw blank
The seven-time major victor next plays No. 24-seeded Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, who beat No. 8 Svetlana Kuznetsova 6-3, 6-3. I have a lefty in me this tournament already. "This is what you do all the hard work in the off-season for", she said.

Pliskova appeared on the brink of elimination as she fell behind a break to start the second set, but pulled off a comeback reminiscent of her match against Jelena Ostapaneko in the third round to level the match and take necessary momentum into the decider. "I'm so proud of Mirjana, she has been playing so well". I played her almost two decades ago.

"I'm going to be just fine".

"She's a great champion", Lucic-Baroni added. She was the one who wanted to decide the points.
