The Muslim Student Association brought World Hijab Day to UTA Wednesday by introducing students to the distinctive head scarf worn by some Muslim women. Budd said she was always interested in Islamic culture and had always been attracted to the attractive modesty of the hijabi clad women. She said it was important for immigrants here to show solidarity with one another.

According to her own testimony, Khan knows the struggles that Muslim women face in their choice to wear the hijab. She said no one should judge another for what they are wearing or not wearing. She said she did not have an elaborate reason for wearing it but that it was part of an evolution for her."For me, it's part of who I am more than anything", she said. The celebration takes place on February 1 each year. "And I think to others it shows you do not have to be an extremist to wear a hijab".

University of New Mexico Muslim students are set to host "World Hijab Day" on campus amid protests over President Donald Trump's travel ban on seven Muslim-majority countries. This year, however, they have taken a more focused route.

People came together Wednesday in Colorado Springs for the fifth annual World Hijab Day. "If a woman is dressed in a hijab it doesn't mean she's a radical, if she's dressed in short-shorts it doesn't mean she's a slut". After her workout they were gone.

But while Muslims insist on respecting their right to wear the hijab, Ilagan also said that wearing them have also marked them for discrimination.

She was close enough to yell back: "But I didn't really like Arkansas". She said current students are "changing things" and hopefully creating traditions.

She said the use of hijab was a religious obligation and not an Arab culture that one might discard at will.
