Reston Restaurants Show Their Support of 'Day Without Immigrants'

"I'd love to simply disappear, but my job is to primarily help immigrants, so I can not just stop going to work". Americans may be about to find out.

Foreign-born residents of the US are being asked to stay home from work or school - and to refrain from shopping.

There was something of a trial run for the day in Wisconsin on Monday, when some businesses and schools closed.

Eater Boston has a list of other bars and restaurants that are closed, or are expressing support.

Dziupla, a Polish restaurant in Williamsburg, said it will close as well.

Other participating restaurants and stores include Land Thai Kitchen on the Upper West Side, La Contenta on the Lower East Side, PURE Thai Cookhouse in Hell's Kitchen, 51st Bakery and Cafe in Long Island City and La Sirena in the East Village. "We are an immigrant company, born in Italy, with many immigrant employees".

United States businesses and schools face possible disruption as workers and students vow to stay home to draw attention to the contribution of immigrants. Out of solidarity, he says he'll "try to do our gringo version of Latino food and serve them if they want to come in".
