Trump's New Deportation Rules: How Will Things Change for Undocumented Immigrants?

Tracy FergusonFeb 23, 2017

The Department of Homeland Security issued tough new orders Tuesday to begin a sweeping crackdown on illegal immigrants, putting almost all of the country's 11 million undocumented foreigners in their cross-hairs.

During his eight years in office, Barack Obama instructed USA immigration officials to focus deportation efforts on undocumented migrants who were convicted of serious crimes or recent arrivals captured near the U.S. border.

Federal law enforcement agencies-including Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Customs and Border Protection (CBP)-have been instructed to immediately detain and deport all migrants caught entering the country, while also calling for the expedited removal of people who have been in the US for up to two years, anywhere in the country.

"It implements new policies created to stem illegal immigration and facilitate the detection, apprehension, detention, and removal of aliens who have no lawful basis to enter or remain in the United States".

A three-story David Bowie lightning-bolt memorial is coming to Brixton
Brixton, a district in London, is where the artist was born and lived until the age of 6, when his family headed to the suburbs. A crowdfunding campaign to erect a permanent memorial to David Bowie has been launched by a team of south London designers.

The memos are essentially instruction manuals for the sweeping executive orders issued by President Trump in late January.

They were sent to the heads of key agencies, including Customs and Border Protection and Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

The memo also instructs agents to expedite removal processes for undocumented immigrants detained at the border, a departure from the Obama administration's legal procedures which provided some due process.

In speeding up the deportation process, DHS will ask the administration to allow them to use "expedited deportation proceedings" for any illegal aliens living in the USA for two years or less.

An estimated 200,000 illegal immigrants are living in MA right now and with Trump's immigration ban in place, many of them are anxious they could be deported.

MINEOLA - The White House has announced changes to expand the group of immigrants considered a priority for deportation.

Numerous new regulations will need approval from the Congress before they can be executed, officials said.

Trump's planned measures against illegal immigrants have drawn protests, such as an event last week that activists called "A Day Without Immigrants" to highlight the importance of foreign-born people, who account for 13 percent of the U.S. population, or more than 40 million naturalized citizens.

Trump to tap Loria for U.S. ambassador to France
Loria would be the second sports team owner to be an ambassador for the Trump administration. Kushner's son-in-law released a statement to the New York Times on Wednesday explaining why.

The deportation of Mexicans would be one of the government's major concerns at the meeting, said the official, who declined to be named. And the guidelines allow for increased enlistment of local law enforcement agencies in acting as immigration officers - an effort which many big-city mayors have sought to prevent by proclaiming their statuses as "sanctuary cities".
