The Mainstream Media's War on Trump

April AlvarezFeb 28, 2017

No previous president has begun his tenure with a net negative job approval. Unfortunately, since I wrote that piece, Trump and his entire administration have effectively tripled-down on their war against the American news media and have taken unprecedented actions to counter it.

A slim majority of Americans believe the media's coverage of President Donald Trump has been too critical, according to new polling.

Forty-eight percent say they disapprove of Trump's performance as president, and 32 percent said his performance thus far shows he's not up to being president.

Trump is set to lay out his vision for the country in his address to a joint session of Congress Tuesday. George H.W. Bush, meantime, had a net positive rating of 45 percent early in his presidency.

There was a near tragedy Wednesday as protesters intentionally set almost two dozen buildings inside the camp on fire. Officers checked structures and began arresting people, putting them in vans to take to jail.

Trump said he is removing undocumented immigrants who carried out crimes.

Almost two-thirds of American voters find President Donald Trump's use of Twitter is reckless and distracting, according to a new nationwide McClatchy-Marist poll.

Todd then played a prepared clip detailing numerous instances where Trump went on the attack against the media directly after mainstream press reports related to potential Russian ties.

Eighty-five percent of Republicans approve of the job Trump has done, compared with just 9 percent of Democrats. While only 43 percent said they have a positive view of Trump and 59 percent said they don't like him personally, 86 percent agreed with the president's claim during his inaugural speech that a group of insiders was getting rich off the little guy.

Do cats cause schizophrenia?

While only 30 percent of those polled overall say that Trump is off to a "great start", 63 percent of Republicans agree.

Trump's first five weeks in office have been uneven, marked by repeated attacks on mainstream USA news outlets for its reporting on his administration, a choice to fill a Supreme Court vacancy praised by Republicans and a legal setback when courts blocked his attempt to halt travel to the United States from seven majority Muslim countries.

Another 45 percent said they disagreed with the statement, that journalists feared the Republican businessman in the White House.

And in Edelman's recent Trust Barometer study, which it does annually, the public-relations firm found that just 35% of respondents said that they trusted the media. But the media has been labeled by the Trump Administration as the enemy of Americans and that is far from the truth. The president recently described the mainstream press as "enemies of the American people", and his chief strategist Steve Bannon has said the media acts as though it is the opposition party.
